Thought this was awesome for ANYONE…not just those new to CF:

    http://crossfitdelawarevalley.com/2011/01/27/10-tips-for-success-for-the-crossfit-newbie/

    Some of my favorite quotes:
–Chase your own capacity before chasing the person next to you.
–You are a Ferrari. You wouldn’t put regular unleaded fuel in a Ferrari, would you?
–It’s your time, money, and most importantly, health. If you don’t fully understand something, ask.
–I Crossfit so that I can do whatever I want:
–It Doesn’t Get Easier, It Just Sucks Less
–The things you’ll learn in a Crossfit gym are fun: gymnastics, olympic lifts, new swear words
–The attitude is different too (compared to globo gym); no one is going to get in your face and cheer you on as you knock out those last five minutes on the elliptical.
–Have you tried the Kool-Aid? Don’t worry, it’s Paleo.
–All of point 10 & on that note see you tomorrow…it’s a rest day 🙂

Kristin, great article! This one rang for me as a reminder of why I love this so much!
    1. I started with a back ground of ZERO physical fitness. I have tried the gym thing before and never lasted more than a few months and I never did any kind of sports as a kid. March will be my one year anniversary and I can’t wait to see how I do in year 2!
    2. There is a lot in life I want to do!!! Like playing with or even just keeping up with the Grand’s. 🙂
    3. CFNKY makes you WANT to be there surrounded by awesome, super supportive Peeps!
I hope everyone, new, “seasoned” or even just thinking about trying crossfit, takes the time to read this article.

i’ll be in early for the “Alex Letters” (got a yoga class at 6pm). Hope I have a handful to take for Ben! But fear not if you have not yet written. Alex’s mama has supplied us with a writing pad and envelopes! Soooo, I will leave the box so you can keep ’em coming! LOVE!

  • Just bought a “Jump Snap”!! No more box jumps and double unders for me!!! and since it speaks to me in that God awful See-n-Say satanic voice it should either scare the bejeezus out of me or motivate me to never want to workout again! Thanks MegHan!!! You changed my life!!!!!

That jump snap commercial is hilarious… IT’S TOO HARD!

I bought one. It’s gonna sit on the shelf right next to my shake weight and skechers “shape ups” which must work wonders, because that’s what the Jcpenney shoe sales guy told my mom…… 🙂

JUMPSNAP!??!?! Love it! I’m totally gonna get one because jumping rope is waaayyyy too hard! And I loved Kristins article too.

My favorite quotes that described perfectly how I felt when I came in for my first workout were:

“Fear not newbie; these people won’t bite. They’re actually pretty darn friendly and overly supportive once you get to know them.”

“Start light get your form down and dont worry about the mother of three deadlifting 250 as you struggle with the bar.”

    You guys are all awesome!

Kristin…loved the article -thanks so much for sharing! I remember how intimidated I was my first few visits to Crossfit – I was terrified!! But I knew immediately it was the place for me – the WODs are ALWAYS a challenge (I can’t tell you how many times I’ve said…”that is by far the hardest workout I’ve ever done,”). But most of all it’s the Crossfit people that are just the best!! Someone is always there to cheer you on, even when you think you can’t go any further…there’s someone there pushing you to do even better! And my favorite quote was – it doesn’t really get any easier – just sucks less!!!Ha…so true!!

  • I’m another fan of the article – Kristin, thanks for sharing it!
I was the lucky one who got to make up Monday’s workout:
    4 Rounds:
15 Push Press (65# Rx for ladies)
25 Wall Balls (14# med ball)
    35 KB Swings (35#)
Time: 18:27 (I think that’s right). I Rx’d the first 2 rounds but had to strip 10# off to finish the last half. Whew – that was a gasser!
Great job to Maddie, Jeremy, Doug & Matt at 5:30.

  • Disappointed that I didn’t get to go through Monday’s torture with Toni. I managed to pull it off in 13:44 Rx’d while suffering alone (well Meghan and Melissa were suffering through Tuesday’s squat nightmare on the other side).
